Magoffin County’s 12-under all-star softball squad didn’t meet with much district success, but the team has another shot at tournament play Thursday night.
The local squad was eliminated from district competition Saturday after losing its first two games against tournament host Johnson County and Jackson County respectively.

Magoffin County, led by Jazzy Howard’s two hits, scored three runs in the third and two more in the fourth but saw the game come to a close in the home half of the fourth when Johnson County plated a pair to bring about the mercy ending.
Shelby Lemaster, -Leslee Howard, Alissa Howard, Lakota Arnett, and Kia Bolen had one hit apiece for Magoffin County.
In a second game loss to Jackson County, Magoffin County started strong and built a three run advantage heading into the final frame before surrendering six runs and eventually falling 9-6.
Shanda White scored in the first inning and Lakota Arnett sparked a three-run second inning rally with a one-out hit as Magoffin County went up by a 4-2 count.
After Jackson County tallied one run in the fifth, Magoffin County plated a pair as Arnett again spurred a rally with her third hit of the game to help her team go up by three.
Magoffin County is scheduled to take part in a state tournament that begins this week. The local squad will play Thursday at Fern Creek High School in Louisville against Garrard County. A first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
