SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County and Floyd Central are set to meet in the Jaguars' first-ever game on November 28. The Hornets are slated to travel to Floyd County to meet the 15th Region's newest team in late-November.
Magoffin County has not finalized and released its schedule yet.
Scott Castle was announced as the Hornets' new head coach in June. Prior to the start of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period, Castle guided Magoffin County to a 5-0 record.
Castle replaced Robbie Russell as the Hornets' head coach.
In five seasons as the Magoffin County boys' basketball head coach, Russell compiled a 75-67 overall record.
Russell replaced current Magoffin County Athletic Director Neil West as head coach of the Hornets in 2012. During his debut campaign, the 2012-13 season, Russell guided Magoffin County to a 11-15 record.
Showing improvement in his second campaign, the 2013-14 season, Russell guided Magoffin County to a 15-13 record.
Magoffin County compiled a 9-18 record in the 2014-15 season but under Russell's tutelage contended for a 57th District title one season later.
The Robbie Russell-coached Hornets ended the 2015-16 season 22-9. Magoffin County finished runner-up to Johnson Central in the 57th District and reached the 15th Region Semifinals in 2016.
The Hornets entered the 2016-17 season as the preseason 15th Region favorite.
Veteran head coach Kevin Spurlock is preparing to guide Floyd Central in its debut season. A Floyd County native, Spurlock is familiar to Eastern Kentucky having been a head coach at Perry County Central, Sheldon Clark, Clay County and Hazard earlier in his coaching career.
Following the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period, Magoffin County boys' basketball players will return to the gymnasium with open gym sessions.
