SALYERSVILLE - Trenton Caldwell is the latest Magoffin County High School student-athlete headed to the University of Pikeville. Caldwell signed with the University of Pikeville football program during a ceremony held at MCHS on Thursday, April 26.

During his senior season in 2017, Caldwell ranked as Magoffin County's second-leading tackler, recording 71 tackles in 10 games. Caldwell, who established himself as one of the top defensive players in Class 3A, District 7, posted 24 solo tackles during his senior campaign.

UPIKE concluded the 2017 season 5-6 and will be looking to replace multiple key contributors, including starting quarterback Sani Warren and the school's all-time interceptions leader, cornerback Romon Morris.

But leading tackler Taeron Brown is back in the fold for his senior season with the Bears. Offensively, running backs Willie McCloud and former Belfry star Xondre Willis are due back for the UPIKE football program.

The Bears concluded the 2017 season 3-3 in the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division.

Caldwell will make the transition to college over the summer.
