OAKLEY – A child was injured in a dog attack on Sunday, requiring surgery.
According to Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Carter Conley, emergency crews and the Magoffin County Sheriff Department were called to a dog bite on Oakley.
Reportedly, a family member’s pit bull broke its chain and attacked the 8-year-old boy. The child suffered serious but non-life-threatening lacerations to his leg.
The family transported him in their personal vehicle to meet the ambulance in route. He was treated on scene and then taken by ambulance to Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. He was later transported to Pikeville Medical Center and did require surgery for his wounds. He was expected to be released on Tuesday or Wednesday this week, but it is unknown at press time if he has been.
The dog was put down by a family member, according to reports.
