SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County High School senior Nathan Perkins is headed to the next level. On Thursday, Perkins signed with the University of Pikeville football program.
A longtime leader up front for the Hornets as a lineman, Perkins helped to lead Magoffin County throughout his senior season.
Perkins and teammate Ryan Mullins signed with the University of Pikeville during a ceremony held on Thursday, April 19. Both student-athletes will have the opportunity to attend college close to home.
"It's close to home," Perkins confided, after signing with the University of Pikeville. "I know a lot of people there, so that was a big deciding factor."
The University of Pikeville football roster features players from throughout Kentucky and several other states. UPIKE is a former Mid-South Conference division champion.
Pikeville competes in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears are under the direction of veteran head coach Allan Holland Jr., who is the Pikeville football program's all-time winningest coach.
The Bears ended the 2017 season with a 5-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division. Pikeville's 2018 schedule is made up of games versus Keiser, Livingstone, Bethel, Lindsey Wilson, Warner, Point, St. Andrews, Union, Reinhardt, Bluefield and Cumberlands.
Both Perkins and Mullins will report to UPIKE later in the year.
