SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Schools and the Magoffin County Community Foundation are partnering up to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their talents, while giving back to their community.
In a release from the Community Foundation, the two organizations hope this collaboration will “encourage students to take an active role in shaping their community and provide them with the opportunity to participate in community service projects throughout Magoffin County.”
The collaboration, which has been dubbed by the students as “Project Echo,” reiterates the hope “that the impact of their work will echo through our region and be felt for generations to come.”
At the heart of the project, middle school and high school students will be participating in a talent expo, hosted by the Magoffin County High School on April 13, 2017. Students will be showcasing their talents for the community through music, dance, art, drama, cuisine, trade skills, and various other aptitudes, according to the release.
Starting at 6:15 p.m. visitors will be able to tour the new high school and observe the students practicing their craft. The main performance will be held in the gymnasium at 7 p.m. A small fee of admission will be collected, with all proceeds going to the Magoffin County Community Foundation.
The schedule of events for the Echo Showcase include: middle school cheerleaders, high school cheerleaders, play performed by Gifted and Talented Students, middle school dance team, band, high school dance team, middle school choir, high school choir, art showcase, student-published books (signing and reading), music showcase, 4-H youth programs, middle school academic display, HOSA students, story time readings, town house display, arts and crafts/canvas paintings, concessions, school tours, nursing program performing blood pressure checks, welding students displaying projects, and criminal justice students.
