FALCON – A Magoffin woman was killed in a wreck in the Falcon area last Wednesday.
Just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, law enforcement and rescue crews were dispatched to the two-vehicle wreck that occurred approximately five miles from Salyersville on KY Rt. 40.
When crews arrived, a female was in critical condition.
The driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Melissa Brown, age 54, of Burton Branch (off the Left Hand Fork of Johnson Fork) in Salyersville, was air lifted to Pikeville Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Magoffin County Rescue Squad Captain Carter Conley said Brown had been traveling east on Rt. 40 (toward Johnson County), when she crossed into the westbound lane, hitting another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was taken to Paul B. Hall Medical Center, but his name and condition are not known at press time.
Kentucky State Police Trooper William Petry told the Independent the cause of the wreck is unknown and blood toxicology reports are still pending.
Kentucky State Police, Magoffin County Rescue Squad, Salyersville Fire Department, Trans-Star, and Air Evac 116 responded to the wreck.
Brown’s obituary can be found on page A4 of this issue of the Independent.
