The Magoffin County Fiscal Court opened and awarded bids on two projects and approved a bidding process on equipment during a regular meeting Thursday afternoon.
The awarding of the Brown Mountain Bridge project proved simple enough as PBTHNOJJ was the sole bidder at $78,000.
Court members opened four bids on a fire department lots blacktopping project with Mountain Enterprises receiving the award with its bid of $52,382.50.
Brown Mountain Bridge, when completed, will provide safe passage for four area residences. PBTHNOJJ recently completed construction of McNew Bridge at Lakeville.
The blacktop project includes a new surface for the parking lots of Middle Fork, District 3, and North Magoffin fire departments.
Bloomington Fire Department will receive blacktop at a later date, court members said in a September regular meeting.
Work on both projects is expected to begin soon, but no official starting date was announced during Thursday’s meeting.
The court also approved the advertisement of bids for a brusher, which is estimated at $60,000 with an additional $5,000, give or take a couple thousand, for a grader blade attachment.
The county’s current brusher has become unusable and an insurance payoff of $14,000 will be used toward the purchase of a new one.
In a final matter, the court approved a $4,100 payment to the Big Sandy Area Development District for its work on a new Magoffin County Health Department building.
The new MCHD location is slated for completion and an official opening in December.
