Four arrested after ‘dope kit’ found in home

SALYERSVILLE – While serving a bench warrant at a home on Donnie Lane, in Salyersville, police arrested a Magoffin County woman on trafficking-related charges and three other people who were at the residence.

According to the arrest citation, Magoffin County Sheriff Carson Montgomery, with MCSO deputies S. Montgomery, D. Marshall and J. Osborne, noticed a syringe in plain sight. was serving a bench warrant at the home early in the morning of Wednesday, July 28, when officers noticed a syringe out in the open.

Upon searching the home, police found one small bag with a white powdery substance in it, two loaded syringes and a “dope kit,” with scales, baggies, spoons and other unused syringes.

Sheila Arnett, 52, of Salyersville, was placed under arrest and taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, facing the three counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, (one for the baggie and two for the loaded syringes), and one count of trafficking in a controlled substance, first. At press time, she is still being held at BSRDC.

Three more people were arrested at the residence at the same time, two of which have been released from BSRDC, pending future court dates. A male subject was charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance (excluding alcohol, and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess. Another male subject was charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance (excluding alcohol), and a female subject was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first degree, first offense (methamphetamine).

In a Facebook post made by the Magoffin County Sheriff Department on Wednesday, they noted that the arrests were part of “an ongoing investigation in drug activity in the county.”
