SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets have been idle for over two weeks but are busy preparing for a key 57th District matchup.
Magoffin County, a team under the direction of first-year head coach Doug Greene, hasn't been on the floor for a game since edging 15th Region rival East Ridge 65-64 in the final round of the Lady Bulldog Holiday Classic at Hazard on December 30. The Lady Hornets are scheduled to host Sheldon Clark for a 57th District girls' basketball game on Friday night.
Magoffin County is 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the 57th District. The Lady Hornets have notched wins over Sheldon Clark, Betsy Layne and East Ridge. The Lady Hornets outlasted Sheldon Clark 64-63 in an early-season 57th District contest on December 2.
Sheldon Clark is 11-6 overall and 0-3 in the 57th District. The Lady Cardinals have played more games than any other 15th Region girls' basketball team thus far in the 2016-17 season.
Kennedi Stacy is averaging a double-double to lead the way for the Lady Hornets. Stacy is averaging 17.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Not too far behind Stacy in the Magoffin County scoring column, Alexis Montgomery is averaging 14.5 points per game.
Through Sheldon Clark's first 16 games, Hope Lafferty was averaging 28.3 points per game. Lafferty ranks as one of the state's top scorers.
Sheldon Clark is under the guidance of veteran head coach Tim Rice.
