HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Hornets, Golden Eagles split regular-season series
SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Hornets and Johnson Central Golden Eagles split their annual 57th District regular-season baseball series.
Magoffin County, which was 6-1 through its first seven games, knocked off a pair of Top 25 teams earlier last week, defeating both Johnson Central and Perry County Central.
One day after outlasting 14th Region frontrunner Perry County Central 3-2 in a home game, Magoffin County pulled away to defeat visiting Johnson Central 9-5 in a 57th District baseball game on Tuesday, April 11.
But Johnson Central ultimately forced Magoffin County to split the regular-season 57th District series, defeating the Hornets 9-4 in a rematch om Paintsville on Wednesday, April 12.
With the loss, Magoffin County slipped to 6-2.
Johnson Central improved to 9-6 with the win.
Through eight games, Magoffin County had outscored its opponents 66-34.
Magoffin County was scheduled to host Paintsville for another 57th District baseball game on Wednesday. The Hornets are slated to visit Knott County Central on Thursday before returning home to entertain Rowan County the next day.
Magoffin County has additional regular-season games remaining on its 2017 schedule versus Belfry, Sheldon Clark, Russell, Allen Central, Perry County Central, Pikeville, Betsy Layne, Pike County Central. Powell County and Prestonsburg.
