HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Hornets to visit Powell County, Prestonsburg

SALYERSVILLE - Prior to taking the field for the 57th District Baseball Tournament, Magoffin County will conclude its regular-season on the road. The Hornets are set to visit Powell County (14th Region) and Prestonsburg (15th Region) over a two-day stretch. 
Currently, Magoffin County is 12-5 overall. The Hornets compiled a 4-2 57th District record. 
Magoffin County is slated to visit Powell County on Friday evening. First pitch for the Magoffin County-Powell County baseball game is set for 6 p.m.
The Hornets are scheduled to venture to neighboring Floyd County over the weekend for a matchup versus Prestonsburg. First pitch for Saturday's Magoffin County-Prestonsburg baseball game is slated for noon. 
Through 17 games, Magoffin County has outscored opponents 124-69. The Hornets have allowed the fewest runs of any 15th Region baseball team. 
Magoffin County has defeated multiple Top 25 teams during its latest campaign. Marshall University signee Jaren Lovely continues to lead the Hornets.
Prep baseball teams from throughout the state are preparing for the postseason. Magoffin County will meet longtime rival Paintsville in the opening round of the 57th District Baseball Tournament at Johnson Central on Tuesday (May 23). In addition to Magoffin County and Paintsville, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark are poised to play in the postseason. First pitch for the Magoffin County-Paintsville game is set for 7:30 p.m.
