HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Hornets win three straight games

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County baseball team stretched its winning streak to three games on Saturday, thanks to a hard-fought 5-4 win in nine innings over host Jackson City.

Magofin County, under the direction of head coach Steve Miller, dealt 14th Region member Jackson City its first loss in the 2014 season. With the win over Jackson City, Magoffin County evened its overall record to 3-3.

 

Prior to outlasting Jackson City for the win, Magoffin County notched a win over another 14th Region opponent earlier in the week. The Hornets defeated Lee County 8-2 in a game on Wednesday (April 2). Magoffin County hosted Lee County in a home opener. 

Individual statistics for Magoffin County baseball team's games versus Jackson City and Lee County were unavailable at press time. 

Magoffin County is already 3-0 versus teams from the 14th Region. The Hornets' current three-game winning streak started with a 16-3 victory over former 14th Region champion Breathitt County in Jackson on March 28. 

Earlier in the season, Magoffin County lost games to former 15th Region champions Pikeville and Lawrence County. The Hornets dropped a doubleheader to 57th District rival Lawrence County in their second outing in the 2014 season. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to host familiar foe Breathitt County on Thursday. First pitch for the Magoffin County-Breathitt County baseball game is set for 6 p.m.

The remainder of Magoffin County's schedule will feature games versus Powell County, Paintsville, Lee County, Knott County Central, Pike County Central, Sheldon Clark, East Carter, Wolfe County, Belfry, Pikeville and Johnson Central.
