HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Hornets rack up 4,480 yards of total offense

SALYERSVILLE - Statistics have been finalized for the Magoffin County High School football program's historic 2013 season.

Offensively, Magoffin County thrived under the tutelage of first-year head coach Scotty McCoy. One Magoffin County running back rushed for over 1,000 yards, another just missed the rushing plateau, the team's signal-caller passed for over 1,900 yards and three different receivers had over 500 receiving yards each. Plus, as a team, Magoffin County racked up 4,480 yards of total offense. 

Seven Hornet running backs combined to rush for 2,539 yards in a season when Magoffin County hosted its first-ever playoff game.

Senior running back Clay Elam finished with 1,085 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns via 177 carries in 11 games for the Magoffin County football team. Elam averaged 99 yards on the ground per game for the Hornets.

Fellow senior running back Matt Patton rushed 128 times for 937 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games after missing Magoffin County's season-opener with an injury.

Junior quarterback Ryan Jenkins contributed to Magoffin County's ground attack as he rushed 81 times for 440 yards and nine touchdowns. 

Dalton Keeton, Ryan Thompson and Dillon Williams also rushed for positive yardage for the Hornets. Keeton delivered a rushing touchdown for the Magoffin County football squad as well. 

Jenkins completed 109 of 179 passes for 1,941 yards, 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. 

The Magoffin County quarterback completed passes to five different receivers. Jenkins was the only Magoffin County player to attempt a pass during the 2013 season.

Kris Burton led Magoffin County in receiving. Burton reeled in a team-high 40 receptions for 643 yards and seven touchdowns. 

Patton and Keeton weren't far behind, though. Patton caught 34 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns for the Hornets. Keeton grabbed 29 catches for 590 yards and five touchdowns in Magoffin County's winning season. 

Devan Ables added five catches for 76 yards and Elam hauled in a five-yard reception for the Hornets. 

Mathis Ebner paced the Magoffin County special teams unit with 36 extra-point kicks. 

Elam led Magoffin County in scoring with 114 points. Patton added 110 points for the Hornets. 

Jenkins (54 points), Burton (52 points), Ebner (40 points), Keeton (36 points) and Andrew Anderson (4 points) also provided scoring for the Magoffin County football team.

The Hornets outscored opponents 412-309 during the 2013 season.
