HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Magoffin County defeats Betsy Layne, 16-6 in 6 innings

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County remained in the win column on Wednesday, April 12, defeating 15th Region counterpart Betsy Layne 16-6 in six innings in a high school softball game. 

Productive Magoffin County claimed its second straight win. The Lady Hornets continued to win after outlasting Sheldon Clark 8-7 on the road one day earlier. 

Magoffin County pitcher Mahallie Ratliff earned the win. Ratliff registered three strikeouts.

Dominating during the non-district matchup, Magoffin County outhit Betsy Layne 17-8.

The Lady Hornets turned in one of their most balanced offensive efforts thus far in the 2017 high school softball season. 

Six Magoffin County batters delivered two or more hits. Leading the Lady Hornets at the plate, Morgan Wilson went 4-for- with two runs scored and an RBI.

Brooklyn Poe and Kristin Gamble added three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Lady Hornets in the convincing victory over Betsy Layne. Showcasing her speed on the bases, Poe legged out a triple.  

Aiding the Magoffin County offensive attack, Samantha Black, Erin Bolen and Jamie Collins contributed two hits apiece for the host team. Collins provided a game-high three RBIs for the Lady Hornets.  

Also chipping in offensively for Magoffin County, Alexis Montgomery added one hit and an RBI. 

Black and Bolen doubled for the Lady Hornets in the win. 

Magoffin County completed a regular-season sweep. The Lady Hornets blanked Betsy Layne 15-0 in three innings in an early-season game on March 24.
