SANDY HOOK - Following a long layoff, Magoffin County was back on the field for a non-district high school softball game on the road earlier in the week. Elliott County, however, prevented Magoffin County from returning to the win column on Monday, defeating the Hornets 7-2 in a non-district high school softball game.
The Hornets hadn't played since April 27.
With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 8-10.
Elliott County improved to 11-9 with the win.
Through 18 games, opponents have outscored the Hornets 150-146.
Magoffin County was visiting Breathitt County (14th Region) on Wednesday evening. Results from the Magoffin County-Breathitt County softball game were unavailable at press time and will appear in next week's edition.
The Hornets are poised to conclude the regular-season with back-to-back-to-back home games. Magoffin County is poised to host familiar foe Belfry (15th Region) at 6 p.m. on Friday night. Then, in a short turnaround, Magoffin County is slated to entertain Knott County Central (14th Region) and Pike County Central (15th Region) one day later.
First pitch for Saturday's Magoffin County-Knott County Central matchup is set for 11 a.m. The Magoffin County-Pike County Central softball game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
Magoffin County is preparing to meet Sheldon Clark in the opening round of the 57th District Softball Tournament at Johnson Central on Monday (May 22). Along with Magoffin County and Sheldon Clark, tournament host Johnson Central and crosstown rival Paintsville are poised to compete in the 57th District Softball Tournament. First pitch for the Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark game is slated for 7 p.m.
