HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Lady Hornets fall to top-ranked Paintsville

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County had the tough task of battling 15th Region frontrunner Paintsville in the semifinals of the 57th District Volleyball Tournament earlier in the week. Paintsville continued to dominate in its 2017 postseason debut, blanking the Lady Hornets 3-0 on Monday night.

Region favorite Paintsville improved to 29-4 and advanced to the 57th District championship match with the win. 

With the loss, Magoffin County ended the 2017 season 0-24.

Paintsville excelled throughout the district tournament match, winning the opening set 25-5.

The Lady Tigers remained in control throughout the contest, topping Magoffin County 25-7 in the second set. 

Finishing strong, Paintsville defeated tournament host Magoffin County 25-4 in the third set to earn the win. 

Sheldon Clark 3, Johnson Central 0: In the nightcap of the 57th District Volleyball Tournament at the Magoffin County High School Gym on Monday night, Sheldon Clark shut out Johnson Central 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 28-26). 

With the loss, Johnson Central was eliminated from the postseason. 

The victory over Johnson Central allowed Sheldon Clark to advance to meet Paintsville in the 57th District title match.
