PAINTSVILLE - Visiting Magoffin County fell short in its bid to upset longtime rival Paintsville in a 57th District volleyball match on Saturday. Paintsville pulled away to defeat the Lady Hornets 3-0, winning 25-8, 25-7, 25-3.

Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-19.

With the win, Paintsville improved to 19-5.

Paintsville, one of the top teams in the talent-heavy 15th Region, completed a regular-season sweep in the 57th District series. When the two 57th District volleyball squads met on Sept. 25, Paintsville also won 3-0 (25-4, 25-13, 25-5).

The Lady Hornets dropped matches to familiar foes Sheldon Clark and Lawrence County earlier in the month.

Postseason competition is nearing for both Magoffin County and Paintsville.

Each squad will compete in the 57th District Volleyball Tournament next week.
