Hornets' 2014 football schedule finalized, released

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County High School football team's complete schedule for the 2014 season has been posted on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association's website (www.khsaa.org). Familiar opponents fill the Hornets' 2014 slate.

During the upcoming season, Magoffin County will host South Floyd, Allen Central, Knott County Central, Betsy Layne and Morgan County for home games. 

The Hornets will hit the road for away games versus Powell County, Estill County, Breathitt County, Jackson County and Lewis County. 

Under the direction of first-year head coach Scotty McCoy, Magoffin County hosted its first home playoff game in 2013. After finishing runner-up to Breathitt County in Class 3A, District 7, Magoffin County fell to Lawrence County in the opening round of the Class 3A State Playoffs. 

The Hornets fared well throughout the 2013 season, outscoring opponents 412-309. Magoffin County notched wins over South Floyd, Allen Central, Estill County, Knott County Central, Jackson County and Morgan County. 

In a district shootout, former state powerhouse Breathitt County edged the Hornets 55-49. 

The Hornets are set to host South Floyd in a 2014 season-opener on Aug. 22. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-South Floyd football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
