SALYERSVILLE -Magoffin County remained in the loss column on its home floor on Wednesday (Feb. 8). Visiting Knott County Central avenged a loss to Magoffin County from earlier in the season, defeating the Hornets 80-73.
With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 15-9.
Knott County Central improved to 18-8 with the win.
Faring well offensively, Knott County Central shot 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field. The Patriots were 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range.

Austin Combs led Knott County Central with a team-high 24 points. Accompanying Combs in double figures for the Patriots, Isaac Caudill scored 21 points and Brandon Couch contributed 12 points .
Flirting with a double-double, Kolton Hofsess scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Patriots in the victory.
Magoffin County shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field. The Hornets were 7-of-20 (35 percent) from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line.
Trenton Russell led Magoffin County with a game-high 32. Russell drained five 3-point field goals for the Hornets.
Following Russell in double figures for the Hornets and nearly registering a double-double, Ryan Mullins scored 19 pints and pulled down nine rebounds. Mullins shared game-high rebounding honors with Knott County Central's Hofsess.
Jaren Lovely added 17 points as three Hornets reached double figures in the scoring column.
Rounding out the Magoffin County individual scoring, Daniel Minix and Nolan Arnett netted three points and two points, respectively.
