Hornets have rushed for over 2,200 yards

SALYERSVILLE - After picking up 318 yards on the ground Friday night versus district rival Morgan County, Magoffin County has now rushed for 2,219 yards in 2013. The Hornets have passed for 1,392 yards. The balanced Magoffin County football team is likely to feature a rusher over 1,000 yards and and a passer over 1,500 yards when it hosts tradition-rich Lawrence County in the opening round of the Class 3A State Playoffs next week.

Senior Clay Elam leads Magoffin County in rushing and he's closing in on a milestone - 1,000 yards. Elam has rushed 150 times for 983 yards and 18 touchdowns. The highly-productive Elam leads Magoffin County in scoring with 108 points.  
Fellow senior Matt Patton ranks second in both rushing yards and receiving for the Hornets.The versatile Patton has rushed 98 times for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns. 

Junior quarterback Ryan Jenkins has also showcased his versatility for the Magoffin County football team. Jenkins has completed 79 of 131 passes for 1,392 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jenkins has also thrown only seven interceptions in nine games. 

On the ground, Jenkins has rushed 61 times for 381 yards and eight touchdowns. 

Dalton Keeton has reeled in 25 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns for the Magoffin County offense. Patton has grabbed a team-high 26 catches for 424 yards and five touchdowns.

Another proven pass-catcher, Kris Burton, boasts 25 receptions, 417 receiving yards and four scoring catches. 

Defensively, Gareth Gray is over 100 tackles. Gray leads Magoffin County with 101 total tackles. Josh Poe has registered 75 tackles while Devan Ables, Cody Mullins and Patton have posted 55 stops apiece.  

Burton leads Magoffin County in interceptions. He has recorded four interceptions thus far this season.

Hornets ranked 12th in State Class 3A Poll: Magoffin County is ranked third in this week's Kentucky Associated Press Class 3A High School Football Poll. The Hornets are ranked one spot of Lewis County, this week's opponent. Magoffin County and Lewis County each boast a 6-3 overall record. The two Class 3A football teams will meet for a regular-season finale in Salyersville on Friday night.  

The Hornets received three votes for this week's Kentucky Associated Press Class 3A Poll. 

Magoffin County is ranked behind Russell (11), Elizabethtown (10), Paducah Tilghman (9), Corbin (8), Bell County (7), Mason County (6), Louisville Central (5), South Warren (4), Bourbon County (3), Wayne County (2) and top-ranked Belfry (1).
