SALYERSVILLE - Familiar non-district foes Magoffin County and Allen Central are set to meet on the gridiron. The two high school football teams will carry identical 1-1 records into this year’s matchup at Magoffin County’s new football facility on Friday night.

When the two squads met last season, Magoffin County rolled, winning 48-8.

Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Scotty McCoy, dropped to 1-1 after falling to host Powell County last week. The Hornets defeated much-improved South Floyd 47-28 in a season-opener on Aug. 23.

Magoffin County was picked to finish second in The Cats’ Pause 2014 Kentucky Football Yearbook’s Class 3A, District 7 Preview. The Hornets finished runner-up to preseason district favorite Breathitt County (7-5) in 2013.

Magoffin County has over half of its starters back from the 2013 team.

Allen Central claimed its first win in the 2014 season late last week, defeating visiting Jenkins 40-14. East Ridge defeated the host Rebels 20-8 in Week 0.

Allen Central, which competes with Phelps, Pikeville and South Floyd in Class A, District 8, must now take to the road for the first time in the 2014 season. The Rebels were picked to finish second behind Pikeville in The Cats’ Pause 2014 Kentucky Football Yearbook’s Class A, District 8 Preview.

The Allen Central football program endured tragedy during the preseason when player Trey Aldrich passed away. Members of the Magoffin County football team paid their condolences to Aldrich.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Allen Central football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
