Hornets to resume weightlifting after Thanksgiving
SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County head coach Justin Combs has made the move to postpone weightlifting sessions for his football team until after Thanksgiving. Combs confirmed the schedule change for his football squad on Tuesday, one day after some players were back in the weight room.
"I am postponing lifting weights until after Thanksgiving," said Combs. "I noticed yesterday (Monday) that we need some time to relax and let our bodies heal up from the season. I have talked to our coaches and I believe this is best for us. Take this time to relax and spend time with some family and friends.
We will come back the week after Thanksgiving break ready to go."
Magoffin County concluded the 2018 season 3-7, notching wins over East Ridge, Betsy Layne and Knott County Central. The Hornets dropped games to East Carter, Lawrence County, Harlan, Powell County, Morgan County, Estill County and Breathitt County, missing out on advancing to the Class 3A State Playoffs. Showing improvement during multiple games, Magoffin County compiled a 1-4 record in Class 3A, District 7.
Magoffin County will finalize and release its 2019 football schedule later in the offseason.
Magoffin County sophomore linebacker Mason Lovely pressured Betsy Layne freshman quarterback Chase Mims during a high school football game in early-September.
