Hornets' scrimmages set

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will face a pair of area rivals on the gridiron during the preseason. The Hornets are slated to battle Paintsville and Sheldon Clark in separate scrimmages in August, prior to the kickoff of the 2018 high school football season.

The Magoffin County-Paintsville scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 3.

The Magoffin County-Sheldon Clark scrimmage is slated for Aug. 10.

Magoffin County opened preseason practice on Tuesday. The Hornets are under the tutelage of head coach Justin Combs.

A contender for the Class A state title, Paintsville also started its preseason practice on Tuesday. The Tigers are under the guidance of head coach Joe Chirico. 

Sheldon Clark conducted signups for its 2018 season on Tuesday. The Cardinals are under the direction of head coach Josh Muncy. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to kick off the 2018 season on the road at East Carter in a non-district matchup on August 17. East Carter pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 36-6 in a 2017 high school football season opener.
