SALYERSVILLE - When it comes to the Magoffin County football team's schedule for the 2014 season, only the dates and times differ from the 2013 campaign.

The Scotty McCoy-coached Hornets will once again face non-district opponents South Floyd, Powell County, Allen Central, Estill County, Betsy Layne and Lewis County. District rivals Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Jackson County and Morgan County are also on the Hornets' 2014 schedule.

Magoffin County outscored opponents 412-309 during the 2013 season. The Hornets nearly knocked off former multi-time state champion Breathitt County when the two district counterparts met during the regular-season. Breathitt County beat the Hornets 55-49 in a shootout. A victory over Breathitt County would have given the Hornets a district title.

Magoffin County will host South Floyd, Allen Central, Knott County Central, Betsy Layne and Morgan County for home games during the upcoming season.

The Hornets will hit the road for away games versus Powell County, Estill County, Breathitt County, Jackson County and Lewis County.

The Hornets are set to host South Floyd in a 2014 season-opener on Aug. 22. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-South Floyd football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
