Hornets set to host Knott Co. Central

SALYERSVILLE - Following a week off, Magoffin County will host Knott County Central for a Class 3A, District 7 game on Friday night. 


Magoffin County, under the direction of second-year head coach Scotty McCoy, owns a 2-2 overall record. The Hornets have defeated Floyd County opponents South Floyd and Allen Central. Magoffin County has dropped games to Powell County and Estill County.

Dalton Keeton took over at quarterback for the Hornets earlier in the season and continues to lead the Magoffin County offensive unit. 

Knott County Central is 1-3 through its first four games. After dropping a season-opener to Leslie County, Knott County Central doubled up Phelps, winning 28-14. The Patriots have also dropped games to South Floyd and Betsy Layne. 

Running backs Brad Chaffins and Taylor Thornsberry lead the Patriots. Both Chaffins and Thornsberry are on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards apiece. 

Magoffin County and Knott County Central are longtime rivals. The Hornets rolled when the two teams met last season, winning 48-8. 

In addition to Knott County Central, Magoffin County has regular-season games remaining versus Breathitt County, Jackson County, Betsy Layne, Morgan County and Lewis County.

The Hornets are slated to host Knott County Central, Betsy Layne and Morgan County in home games.

Knott County Central’s remaining regular-season schedule will feature Magoffin County, Jenkins, Morgan County, Jackson County, Breathitt County and Allen Central. 

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Knott County Central football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
