SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County remained in the win column in Week 3 of the 2018 high school football season, shutting out visiting Betsy Layne 44-0 in a non-district high school football game on Friday night.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 2-2
Betsy Layne stumbled to 0-4 with the loss.
Magoffin County set the tone in the game's opening quarter. The Hornets pulled away to win convincingly over Betsy Layne, a team under the tutelage of former Magoffin County head coach Scotty McCoy.
Quarterback Lucas Litteral continued to help lead Magoffin County, completing four of five passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Litteral threw one interception in the convincing victory.
Brady Whitaker led Magoffin County in both receiving and rushing. Whitaker hauled in two passes for 70 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Whitaker rushed six times for 72 yards and one touchdown.
Grayson Lanning was on the receiving end of Litteral's other scoring pass. Lanning hauled in a 10-yard scoring pass from Litteral in the Hornets's victory,
Nick Caldwell reached the endzone twice for the Hornets. Caldwell rushed three times for 39 yards and two touchdowns.
Mason Lovely led the Magoffin County defensive effort, posting a game-high 12 tackles. Lovely, one of the area's top high school defensive players, registered two sacks for the Hornets.
As a team, Magoffin County recorded four interceptions. Matthew Watkins posted two interceptions for the Hornets. Joining Watkins in the key defensive category, Randy Bailey and Fernando Irvin recorded one interception apiece.
Magoffin County hosted Betsy Layne for Homecoming.
