PRESTONSBURG – On Saturday, June 30 Magoffin County native Jessica Salyer held her first-ever solo art showing at City Perk Coffeehouse. With family, friends, and art lovers a-like in attendance, the exhibition was a big hit! For added atmosphere, local musician John Tucker performed live acoustic music during the event.
Entitled “Internal Universe,” this showing was a collection of mixed media artwork, mainly in spray paint featuring intense galaxy scenes with hidden meanings about inner thoughts and feelings. She describes her process as Automatic Art:
“I never have a plan when I start creating. I like to start with a clean paper and open mind and see where the process takes me. Sometimes I learn a lot about myself once I see what I have created.”
A Salyersville resident, Salyer is a mother of three and an award-winning artist, having won two awards for her spray paint pieces from the Grayson Gallery & Art Center. She is also a member of the Kentucky Art Tribe and part of the Weird Appalachia Podcast.
