Prestonsburg, KY—The Kentucky Education Association is proud to introduce the newest chapter of its nationally-recognized Student Program, an affiliate of the National Education Association Student Program.

Teacher education students at the Morehead State University campus at Prestonsburg have adopted a constitution and by-laws consistent with the requirements of KEA and NEA and elected as their first chapter president Casey Salyers, a senior from Flat Gap, Kentucky. Other officers include president-elect Del Shepherd, a senior from Salyersville, Kentucky; secretary/historian Jessica Grim, a senior from Paintsville, Kentucky; and treasurer Samantha Ward, a senior from Beauty, Kentucky.
“I am very excited about the KEA Student Program,” said Casey. “It will provide our members with opportunities to strengthen their skills as pre-service teachers and through their dedication and perseverance, I believe we will make a great impact in the public schools and communities of Eastern Kentucky.”
The KEA Student Program is Kentucky’s only professional organization for all pre-service teachers. More than 2,500 students at 36 Kentucky colleges and universities join KEA SP each year.
“We are very pleased that our future colleagues from the Prestonsburg campus of Morehead State are joining the KEA family,” said KEA state president Sharron Oxendine. “Pre-service teachers get a head start on their profession when they belong to KEA!”
The KEA Student Program will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during the week of November 15th-19th at the Postsecondary Education Building on the BSCTC campus in Prestonsburg.  Open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am-6:00pm and on Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm.
