Lady Hornets beat Breathitt County in high-scoring game

JACKSON - After dropping a game to host Elliott County in Sandy Hook two days earlier, Magoffin County managed to defeat another opponent on the road in a late-season high school softball game. The Lady Hornets beat homestanding Breathitt County 18-11 on Wednesday (May 17).
Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Breathitt County hail from neighboring regions. 
Magoffin County pitcher Alexis Montgomery worked a complete game and earned the win. Montgomery registered four strikeouts. The Magoffin County pitcher walked three in the winning effort. 
Offensively, Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, managed 19 hits, including two doubles and one triple. 
Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Montgomery finished 6-for-6. 
Brooklyn Poe helped to pace the visiting Lady Hornets offensively, finishing 5-for-6 with one double. 
Samantha Black finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Lady Hornets. 
Erin Bolen went 1-for-6 and delivered a game-high four RBIs for Magoffin County in the victory. 
Kallee Hale and Kennedy Stacy added two hits apiece for the Lady Hornets as the visiting team prevailed. 
All nine hitters in the Magoffin County batting order contributed to the win.  
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 9-10.
