Lady Hornets contend for win in home opener

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets flirted with claiming a win in a home opener. However, former 57th District counterpart Lawrence County managed to edge the Lady Hornets 3-2 in an early-season volleyball match on Tuesday. 

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-4.

Lawrence County improved to 4-5 with the win. 

The Lady Hornets started strong, winning back-to-back games.

But Lawrence County finished even stronger.

The Lady Bulldogs shook off a slow start to prevail 19-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-21, 17-15.

Magoffin County is slated to visit Lawrence County for a mid-season match on September 18. Lawrence County competes in the neighboring 58th District. 

The Lady Hornets are scheduled to host Johnson Central for a 57th District volleyball match on Thursday. Magoffin County has additional regular-season matches remaining versus Pike County Central, Paintsville, Morgan County, Buckhorn, June Buchanan, Jackson City, Robertson County, Prestonsburg,

Sheldon Clark and Shelby Valley. Magoffin County and Lawrence County will compete in separate district tournaments in October.
