Lady Hornets edge Sheldon Clark, 8-7

INEZ - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets notched a 57th District win on the road on Tuesday, April 11, edging the Sheldon Clark Lady Cardinals 8-7 in an early-season high school softball game. 

Magoffin County pitcher Mahallie Ratliff earned the win. Ratliff allowed only three earned runs.

Each 57th District softball squad managed to collect eight hits. 

Erin Bolen, one of the 15th Region's most underrated softball players, finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Following Poe in the hits column for the Lady Hornets, Brooklyn Poe contributed two singles. 

Samantha Black, Kennedi Stacy and Morgan Wilson chipped in one hit apiece for the Lady Hornets in the winning effort. Black, who drove in one run, legged out a triple while Wilson doubled for Magoffin County in the hard-fought 57th District win over longtime rival Sheldon Clark. 

Alexis Montgomery led Magoffin County on the base paths, scoring two of the Lady Hornets' eight runs. 

Much-improved Sheldon Clark pushed visiting Magoffin County throughout the matchup. 

Magoffin County, a team under the direction of head coach Tony Skaggs, returned to the win column after suffering three consecutive losses. 

With the win, Magoffin County moved to 1-0 in the 57th District.
