Lady Hornets enter second half of season

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County was visiting perennial 15th Region title contender Shelby Valley at press time on Wednesday. The Lady Hornets hadn't been on the floor for a game since competing in the final round of the Berea Holiday Classic on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Results from the Magoffin County-Shelby Valley girls' basketball game were unavailable at press time and will appear in next week's edition. 

The Lady Hornets took a 3-11 record on the road to Shelby Valley. Magoffin County has notched wins over 57th District rival Sheldon Clark, Prestonsburg and New Way Christian Academy, an opponent out of Odessa, Texas. The Lady Hornets have dropped games to Floyd Central, East Ridge, Pike County Central, Paintsville, West Carter, Perry County Central, Collins and St. Henry. East Ridge defeated the Lady Hornets twice in a one-month span from Nov. 30-Dec. 30. 

During its recent holiday break, Magoffin County has continued to practice and prepare for the second half of the 2017-18 season.

Magoffin County is slated to host 57th District counterpart Johnson Central for its next home game on Friday, Jan. 19.

Following the district game versus Johnson Central, one day later on Saturday, Jan. 20, Magoffin County is due to meet 14th Region frontrunner Leslie County in the Lady Hawk 1-Day Showcase at Pike County Central High School.

The Lady Hornets have additional regular-season games remaining versus Paintsville, Betsy Layne, Sheldon Clark, Johnson Central, Shelby Valley, Pikeville, Jenkins, Prestonsburg, East Ridge, Lawrence County and Floyd Central.
