Lady Hornets fall to Paintsville in district tournament

PAINTSVILLE - Magoffin County’s season ended in the semifinals of the 57th District Volleyball Tournament at Johnson Central on Monday. Paintsville pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 3-0 in the district volleyball tournament match, prevailing 25-11, 25-21, 25-5.
With the win, Paintsville improved to 23-7 and advanced to the 57th District championship match.
Magoffin County ended its season 2-21 with the loss. 
During the regular-season, Magoffin County notched wins over former 57th District foe Lawrence County and border rival Morgan County, an opponent from the 16th Region. The Lady Hornets, however, finished the campaign winless in the 57th District, which also includes Sheldon Clark. 
Still, Magoffin County showed much improvement after exiting the 2014 season with an 0-23 record.  
Paintsville advanc to meet crosstown rival Johnson Central in the 57th District title match. In the nightcap on Monday, tournament host Johnson Central shut out Sheldon Clark 3-0. The Lady Eagles topped Sheldon Clark 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 in the late match. 
Paintsville and Johnson Central will represent the 57th District in this year’s 15th Region Volleyball Tournament. 
Allen Central has captured four straight 15th Region titles.
