Lady Hornets falter in second half, drop home game to Pike County Central

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County remained in the loss column over the weekend following a setback to Pike County Central. Visiting Pike County Central pulled away to defeat the Lady Hornets 64-44 in a girls' high school basketball game on Saturday. 

With the loss, Magoffin County stumbled to 0-3.

Pike County Central moved to 3-0 with the win.

Three Lady Hawks reached double figures in the scoring column. Cassidy Mullins led a balanced Pike County Central offensive effort with 18 points. 

Joining Mullins in double figures for the Lady Hawks, Kylea Stanley netted 15 points and Bailey Birchfield added 12 points. 

Pike County Central controlled the second half. The Lady Hawks pulled away to win convincingly after carrying a 29-20 lead into halftime. 

Magoffin County featured only four scorers. Alexis Montgomery connected on four 3-point field goals on her way to leading Magoffin County with a game-high 25 points. 

Two of Magoffin County's four scorers reached double figures as Kennedi Stacy netted 12 points for the Lady Hornets.

Haley Barnett and Kenlee Wireman rounded out the Magoffin County individual scoring, chipping in four points and three points, respectively. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Sheldon Clark for a 57th District game on Friday then entertain Prestonsburg for a non-district contest one day earlier.
