Lady Hornets fend off Belfry, East Ridge

PIKEVILLE - Magoffin County won two of three games in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament at Pikeville on Saturday, notching wins over both Belfry and East Ridge. The Lady Hornets suffered a loss to tournament host Pikeville over the weekend.

Magoffin County 9, Belfry 7: Magoffin County beat Belfry 9-7 in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament at Pikeville on Saturday. 

Pitcher Mahallie Ratliff worked the majority of the game for Magoffin County, pitching 6.1 innings. In six-plus innings, Ratliff allowed six earned runs.

Holly Handshoe also pitched for the Lady Hornets. 

Samantha Black led Magoffin County offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. 

Brooklyn Poe, Erin Bolen and Morgan Wilson added two hits apiece for the Lady Hornets in the hard-fought win. 

Both Poe and Bolen doubled. 

Alexis Montgomery, Kristin Gamble, Jamie Collins and Kennedi Stacy (double) provided one hit apiece for victorious Magoffin County.

Pikeville 12, Magoffin County 6: Tournament host Pikeville managed to double up Magoffin County 12-6 in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Saturday. 

Magoffin County was limited to five runs despite collecting nine hits. Erin Bolen led the Lady Hornets offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run. 

Brooklyn Poe provided two hits for the Lady Hornets in the setback. 

Alexis Montgomery, Samantha Black, Kristin Gamble and Kennedi Stacy chipped in one hit apiece for Magoffin County, last season's 15th Region runner-up.

A pair of Magoffin County pitchers, Holly Handshoe and Bethany Joseph, pitched three innings apiece. 

Magoffin County 12, East Ridge 10: Magoffin County managed to edge familiar 15th Region foe East Ridge 12-10 in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament at Pikeville on Saturday. 

Lady Hornet Mahallie Ratliff pitched a complete game and earned the win. 

Alexis Ratliff (one RBI) and Kristin Gamble (two RBIs) provided three hits apiece for Magoffin County in the winning effort. 

Morgan Wilson and Erin Bolen added two hits apiece for the Lady Hornets in the triumph. Bolen doubled twice and drove in a team-high three runs for the Lady Hornets. 

Jamie Collins dropped in one hit as Magoffin County prevailed in the tournament game.
