Lady Hornets to host two opponents in season’s first week

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets will host a pair of non-district opponents during the first week of the 2014 season next week. Magoffin County will entertain non-region rival Breathitt County in a season-opener on Tuesday (Aug. 19). Then, following a very short turnaround, Magoffin County will host Prestonsburg on Wednesday (Aug. 20).

Magoffin County exited the 2013 season with a 3-28 record. The Lady Hornets fell to Lawrence County in the opening round of the 2013 57th District Tournament.

Breathitt County ended the 2013 season with a 5-17-1 record. The Lady Cats fell to Wolfe County in the opening round of the 2013 55th District Tournament. 

Prestonsburg, a familiar 15th Region rival, finished last season 4-17. The Lady Blackcats suffered an opening round loss to the Piarist School in the 2013 58th District Tournament. 

The Lady Hornets have additional home matches scheduled versus Wolfe County, Sheldon Clark, Piarist School, Jackson City, Johnson Central, Lawrence County, Paintsville, Pike County Central and Morgan County.

Magoffin County is set to face Johnson Central, Jackson City, Piarist School, Pike County Central, Prestonsburg, Paintsville, Estill County, Morgan County, Sheldon Clark, Lawrence County, Wolfe County and Breathitt County in away matches. 

The Lady Hornets join Johnson Central, Lawrence County, Paintsville and Sheldon Clark in the 57th District. 

Head coach Bryanna Howes is set to lead Magoffin County into the 2013 season.
