Lady Hornets outlast KCC, fall to Pike County Central
SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County Lady Hornets split a pair of late-season high school softball games on Saturday. Magoffin County outlasted Knott County Central while falling short to Pike County Central on the final day of the regular season.
The Lady Hornets exited the regular-season with a 10-11 overall record. More on Saturday's games featuring the Magoffin County softball team follows.
Magoffin County 13, Knott County Central 11: Alexis Montgomery finished 2-for-5 and drove in three runs as Magoffin County defeated visiting Knott County Central 13-11 in a late-season high school softball game on Saturday.
Kennedi Stacy added two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Lady Hornets in the victory over Knott County Central, an opponent from the nearby 14th Region. Stacy drilled a double as part of her offensive effort.
Chipping in offensively, Samantha Black, Kristin Gamble and Jamie Collins contributed one hit apiece for the Lady Hornets.
Magoffin County pitcher Mahallie Ratliff earned the win. Ratliff recorded five strikeouts in her winning performance.
Pike County Central 5, Magoffin County 2: Visiting Pike County Central limited Magoffin County at the plate on Saturday, eventually defeating the Lady Hornets 5-2.
Magoffin County and Pike County Central are 15th Region rivals.
Samantha Black and Morgan Wilson provided two hits apiece for Magoffin County in the loss.
Alexis Montgomery and Jamie Collins added one hit and one RBI each for the Lady Hornets.
Pike County Central, a familiar 15th Region foe for the Lady Hornets, took advantage of its offensive opportunities in the non-district matchup.
Magoffin County pitcher Bethany Joseph suffered the loss.
