Lady Hornets preparing for season opener 2017

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County volleyball team is preparing for its season opener. The Lady Hornets will open the 2017 season on the road at 15th Region rival Pike County Central on Monday, Aug 14.

Magoffin County ended the 2016 season 1-25. The Lady Hornets lost to longtime rival Paintsville in the opening round of the 2016 57th District Volleyball Tournament. 

The Lady Hornets will look to show much improvement early on in the 2017 season. Magoffin County competes with Paintsville, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark in the 57th District. 

The 15th Region also includes Pike County Central, East Ridge, Pikeville, Betsy Layne, Belfry, Prestonsburg, Johnson Central, Piarist School, Phelps, Lawrence County and newcomer Floyd Central.   

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley in a home opener on Aug. 17 and entertain Pike County Central in a return match on Sept. 11.

The Lady Hornets have additional regular-season matches scheduled versus Paintsville, Johnson Central, Piarist School, Lawrence County, Jackson City, Sheldon Clark, Shelby Valley, Floyd Central, Morgan County, Pike County Central, Prestonsburg and Lawrence County.

Magoffin County started preseason practice in July. The Lady Hornets made strides early in the preseason. 

Magoffin County will compete in the 57th District Volleyball Tournament in October.
