Lady Hornets push Morgan County before falling

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County flirted with notching its first win in the 2017 season at home in a non-district volleyball match versus Morgan County earlier in the week. Preventing Magoffin County from winning its first match since the 2016 season, visiting Morgan County managed to outlast the Lady Hornets 3-2 in a match on Tuesday.

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-22.

Morgan County improved to 7-19 with the win.

Starting strong, the Lady Hornets edged Morgan County 25-23 in the opening set. 

Faring much better after the initial game, Morgan County won the second set 25-19 and prevailed 25-17 in the third set. 

But the Lady Hornets battled back. Magoffin County beat Morgan County 25-22 in the fourth set.

Denying Magoffin County its first win in more than one year, Morgan County topped the Lady Hornets 15-6 in the fifth set to earn the non-district victory. 

Magoffin County is slated to host Prestonsburg for a regular-season finale on Oct. 10. Prestonsburg, a team from nearby Floyd County, hails from the neighboring 58th District. 

57th District Volleyball - Sheldon Clark 3, Magoffin County 0: Sheldon Clark shut out visiting Magoffin County 3-0 in a 57th District volleyball match on Monday. 

Sheldon Clark defeated the Lady Hornets 25-11, 25-11, 25-10. 

Both Magoffin County and Sheldon Clark will compete in the 57th District Volleyball Tournament later in the month.
