SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County returned to the win column on Tuesday, shutting out visiting Elliott County 10-0 in six innings in a high school softball game.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 9-11.
Elliott County dropped to 6-13 with the loss.
Magoffin County shook a slow start to pull away to defeat 16th Region member Elliott County convincingly.
The Lady Hornets gradually pulled away for the win, plating three runs in the bottom half of the third inning to break open a scoreless game.
Magoffin County pitcher Bethany Joseph threw a complete game and earned the win. Joseph allowed two hits and zero runs while striking out four over six innings.
Elliott County pitcher Sydney Sturgill suffered the loss. Sturgill surrendered 10 runs on nine hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four.
The Lady Hornets outhit Elliott County 8-3.
Emilee Bailey led Magoffin County at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Bethany Tate and Kaylee Morrison provided one hit and two RBIs apiece for the Lady Hornets in the convincing victory.
Emily Markwell and Breanna Markwell each collected one hit apiece for Elliott County in a limited offensive effort.
Defensive miscues plagued Elliott County. The Lady Lions committed eight errors in the setback.
Determined Magoffin County returned to the win column after suffering three straight losses to 57th District foe Johnson Central, Knott County Central and Pikeville.
Magoffin County has regular-season games remaining versus Wolfe County, Jenkins, Menifee County, Floyd Central, Boyd County and Henry Clay.
