EASTERN - Magoffin County halted a three-game losing skid on the road at Floyd Central on Monday, winning 15-1 in five innings in a non-district high school softball game.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 3-4.
Floyd Central dropped to 0-6 with the loss.
The Lady Hornets returned to the win column after dropping three straight games to Belfry, Letcher County Central and Pike County Central.
Magoffin County faced an early deficit as Floyd Central pushed across one run in the bottom half of the first inning.
But the Lady Hornets answered.
Magoffin County plated one run in the top half of the second inning to pull even.
Then, following a scoreless inning, Magoffin County added two more runs in the top half of the fourth frame to move ahead 3-1.
Magoffin County, a former 15th Region champion, erupted for a dozen runs in the top half of the fifth inning and held Floyd Central scoreless in the home portion of the frame to win via the Mercy Rule.
The Lady Hornets outhit Floyd Central 12-5 and made the most of their offensive opportunities.
Magoffin County pitcher Holly Handshoe limited Floyd Central to five hits and one run. Handshoe pitched a complete game and earned the win.
Samantha Black, Alexis Montgomery and Morgan Wilson provided three hits apiece for the Lady Hornets. Erin Bolen collected a game-high four RBIs while Black and Jaime Collins drove in three runs apiece for the Lady Hornets.
Kennedi Stacy (one RBI), Brooklyn Poe (one hit, one RBI) and Emilee Bailey (one hit) also contributed at the plate for Magoffin County in the convincing victory.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Floyd Central for a late-season game on May 18.
