Lady Hornets to visit Morgan County for season opener

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will visit border rival Morgan County for a high school volleyball season opener on Monday, Aug. 13. The Lady Hornets, under the direction of head coach Kelsey Salyer, opened preseason practice in July.

Magoffin County will be looking to show improvement early in the 2018 season. The Lady Hornets concluded the 2017 season winless, finishing 0-24. 

Morgan County exited the 2017 season with a 9-21 record, ending the campaign with a loss to West Carter in the opening round of the 62nd District Volleyball Tournament at Elliott County High School in Sandy Hook. The Lady Cougars are under the direction of head coach Tammy Hensley. 

Following the match versus Morgan County, Magoffin County will host 15th Region rival Prestonsburg for its home opener one day later on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

In addition to matches with Morgan County and Prestonsburg, the Lady Hornets will face Sheldon Clark, Lawrence County, Johnson Central, Pike County Central, Paintsville, Buckhorn, June Buchanan, Jackson City, Robertson County, Knott County Central and Shelby Valley during the 2018 season. 

Magoffin County competes with Johnson Central, Paintsville and Sheldon Clark in the 57th District. Paintsville is the defending 57th District champion.
