The Magoffin County Library Board narrowed down the list of possible architects to three for the remodeling project of the Old First Baptist Church for the new library at the meeting on Tuesday, July 6.
The Board agreed to interview the Brandstetter Carroll Inc., Pearson and Peters Architects PLC, and Murphy-Graves Architects. These three firms will be given a list of needs and wants for the project, then will be given until Monday, August 2 to draft plans and prepare 30-minute presentations. The Board will then vote to decide the architect at the next scheduled Library Board meeting, Tuesday, August 3.
Previous experience with renovated libraries and older buildings was the largest factor to consider, as well as the cohesion between the workers.
The Tuesday meeting was the last meeting for the Region 8 Library Consultant Jimmie Epling, of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
Epling has worked with the State for 7 ½ years, with an additional 13 years with Ohio. He is leaving his position as library consultant to be the library director of the Wayne County Library in Wooster, Ohio.
Vice Chairman Ronald Gullet said, “We hate to see him leave, but we wish him well and certainly appreciate him helping us.”
Epling has faith in the Library Board’s future, though.
“I think they’re going to do just fine,” he said. “This library has really changed for the better and this has been a very hardworking and dedicated board.”
