SOUTH MAGOFFIN - Magoffin County Civil War Days are slated for May 5 through 7, with the Battle of Puncheon/Half-Mountain reenactment planned, as well as a beauty pageant, musical performances, and a Chautauqua performance of Jefferson Davis. 
The event, to be held at the Magoffin County Civil War Park at 171 Half Mountain Road, Salyersville (near South Magoffin Elementary), promises entertainment paralleling past reenactments.

The schedule of events includes:

Friday, May 5, 2017
1 p.m. – School Day
5 p.m. – Miss Belle of Appalachia Pageant

Saturday, May 6, 2017
10 a.m. – Musical performance by Will Caudill & Route 7
12 p.m. – Musical performance by Black Powder Express
2 p.m. – Battle of Puncheon/Half-Mountain Reenactment
3:30 p.m. – Chautauqua of Jefferson Davis
5 to 7 p.m. – Musical performance by Larry Sparks
7:30 p.m. – Old-Fashioned Square Dance by the Joseph Family

Sunday, May 7, 2017
9 to 11 a.m. – Musical performance by Anointed Hearts
11:15 a.m. – Sunday Church Services
12 p.m. – Bluegrass and gospel music by CJ the DJ
2 p.m. – Battle of Puncheon/Half-Mountain Reenactment
The small reenactment event is sponsored by the Magoffin County Civil War Committee, which strives to deliver a great experience for the reenactors, as well as the public. Magoffin County has a rich Civil War history to share with all who come to the event. The committee offers firewood and meals for all reenactors and their families.

A Miss Belle of Appalachia Pageant will be held Friday, May 5 beginning at 5 p.m. at South Magoffin Elementary, and entry is free and open to everyone. It will be judged by a certified pageant judge. Signups will be held April 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Salyersville Renaissance building, registration is available until time of the pageant, and contestants must wear a Civil War era costume (ball gown, hoop dress, morning dress, evening dress or walking dress. The pageant will be directed by Tanika McFarlan and Jincy Bailey. For more information, call 606-367-3992. The pageant is sponsored by the Magoffin County Civil War Reenactment Committee.
