Magoffin County falls to Paintsville in 57th District match

PAINTSVILLE - Magoffin County suffered its second loss in the young 2017 high school volleyball season on the road on Tuesday. Host Paintsville, the 15th Region's top-ranked team, shut out the Lady Hornets 3-0.

The match served as a season opener for the Lady Tigers. 

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the 57th District. 

Paintsville started its season 1-0 both overall and in the district with the win. 

The Lady Tigers started strong. In a dominant performance, Paintsville defeated Magoffin County 25-1 in the first game. 

Magoffin County fared better in the second game. Still, Paintsville pulled away to win 25-10.

Remaining in control, Paintsville beat Magoffin County downed Magoffin County by the same identical 25-10 score in the final game. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley on Thursday, Johnson Central for a 57th District match on Monday and Piarist School on Tuesday.

Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Paintsville are scheduled to meet for another 57th District match in Salyersville on Sept. 12. 

The Lady Hornets have additional regular-season matches remaining versus Lawrence County, Jackson City, Sheldon Clark, Shelby Valley, Floyd Central, Morgan County, Prestonsburg and Johnson Central.
