SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County will be looking to enter the win column when East Ridge visits for an early-season high school football game on Friday, Aug. 31.

The Hornets are 0-2 following back-to-back losses to East Carter and Lawrence County. Through two games, opponents have outscored Magoffin County 91-26.

East Ridge is 0-1 following a lopsided loss to Phelps in the Pike County Bowl on Friday, Aug. 24. Phelps blanked the Warriors 44-0, winning convincingly in a Pike County matchup.

East Ridge struggled throughout its season opener, finishing with only 34 yards of total offense. The Warriors rushed for 34 yards and were held without any yardage through the air.

Trey Blackburn, CJ Branham, Cameron Hess, Connor Puckett and Kane Taylor are key players for the Warriors. Several members of the East Ridge football team lead on both sides of the ball.

Quarterback Lucas Litteral, along with Brady Whitaker, Mason Lovely and Matthew Watkins have emerged as early offensive leaders for the Hornets.

Magoffin County defeated East Ridge for its first win in the 2017 high school football season, prevailing 36-24. The Hornets ended the 2017 season 2-8 while East Ridge concluded the campaign 5-6.

East Ridge is under the guidance of new head coach Quentin Morgan, a Leslie County native who replaced Brad Allen on the sidelines. Morgan took over the East Ridge gridiron group in July.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-East Ridge football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
