SALYERSVILLE - After posting back-to-back wins at home, Magoffin County is set to visit Harlan for a game in Week 4 of the 2018 high school football season.
Magoffin County, under the direction of head coach Justin Combs, evened its record to 2-2 after blanking visiting Betsy Layne 44-0 in Week 3. Over its last two games, Magoffin County has shut out opponents 85-0. The Hornets blanked East Ridge 41-0 on Friday, Aug. 31.
Magoffin County opened the 2018 season with back-to-back losses to East Carter and Lawrence County.
Brady Whitaker has rushed for over 500 yards and leads the Hornets offensively.
Defensively, Mason Lovely has posted 50 total tackles and paces the Hornets,
Harlan is off to a 1-3 start in the 2018 season. After dropping games to Floyd Central, Paintsville and Thomas Walker (Va.), Harlan defeated Middlesboro 44-32 for its first win on Friday, Sept. 7.
Quarterback Will Varner leads the way for the Green Dragons. Through three games, Varner has completed 26 of 65 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns while throwing three interceptions.
Caleb Adkins has been Varner's top target. Adkins has hauled in 18 receptions for 219 yards and one touchdown.
Kilian Ledford leads Harlan on the ground. Ledford has rushed 15 times for 256 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively for Harlan, Braydon Shanks has recorded a team-best 16 tackles.
Harlan is under the direction of head coach John Luttrell.
Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Harlan football game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.
