SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man was arrested after allegedly using someone else’s card to withdraw Social Security funds from a local bank.

According to the warrant of arrest, the Magoffin County Sheriff Department was investigating the theft of a Direct Express card that is used to pay Social Security Benefits. The victim told police that his wife was in possession of his card when she gave Grover J. Allen, 35, of S.E. Licking Road, Salyersville, a ride to town. When the two stopped at Citizens National Bank, she was unable to find the card on November 1.

On the bank’s video footage, Allen is allegedly shown getting out the car and using the victim’s card to make two withdrawals, one for $503 and another for $163, according to the warrant.

The victim’s wife told police that she thought Allen was using his own card to make the withdrawals.

Allen was arrested on Oakley Road on November 2, and charged with theft by unlawful taking, $500 or more but under $10,000. He is currently housed at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, pending future court dates.
