National Adoption Day is November 20, 2010.  Judge Hardin is pictured above signing a Proclamation verifying that Magoffin County as part of the Eastern Mountain Region acknowledges the importance of finding permanent, safe and loving families through adoption.

In Kentucky there are approximately 6,932 children in foster care with 1,879 children who have the goal of adoption and over 378 who are legally free to be adopted but have no identified adoptive family.  The Eastern Mountain Region has the need for individuals and families to become involved in foster care and adoption.  Prospective parents would participate in a 30 hour training class which would include background checks and CPR training.  If you would like more information on how to become an adoptive or foster parent please contact your local Recruitment and Certification worker at the Department of Community Based Services
